Murder overdose
Last night I watched a movie called "Murder by numbers" that was on TV. I couldn't watch parts of it, it was too detailed and graphic. Maybe I'm just getting too old or something, but I'm getting kind of fed up with all the fictional deaths and murder investigations that seem to be everywhere these days. Homicide investigation programs (especially the British ones) used to be my favorite, and murder mystery literature used to be what I enjoyed reading the most as well. When ever I turn on the TV these days though, this is all I se: CSI (New York / Miami), Law and order (two different variations of this show as well), Conviction, Inspector Morse, Taggart, the list goes on and on ...
This has increased very fast since, for example, when I saw the movie "Seven". I remember watching that for the first time and being shocked ... now "Seven" is just a very mildly gross movie, not even as graphic as some of the TV shows today!
When watching the news, I'm also seeing more and more detailed gruesomness. I can see that all of this is having a direct influence on artists as well. Visual art, music, literature keeps going further and further in expressing and describing death, killing and just ugliness in general.
Enough is enough. Last night after watching the movie, I felt that finally I had had enough, reached my limits. I can't take any more of this, my interest is wearing off, and now I feel like this increase in gruesomness has eaten a hollow inside of me ... and now I want to fill it up with images of beautiful things, facts about how wonderful life can be, nice and constructive things.
